Experience

I am a Sydney-based editor and I have recently returned from London where I lived for five years. In 2005 I set up my own business, New Leaf, which specialises in editorial and publishing services.

My experience incorporates working for leading book publishers in the UK and Australia. Other publishing sectors I have worked in include book clubs, magazines and public relations.

HarperCollins UK

HarperCollins UK is one of the top book publishing groups. I worked in editorial and production for Harper Non-Fiction which publishes an impressive selection of titles from block-busting celebrity memoirs, biographies, popular science, history and sport.

Verso

Verso is the largest radical publisher in the English-language world. Based in London, Verso's list crosses academic and trade markets with key authors in the social sciences and humanities, with particular strength in politics, cultural studies, history, philosophy, sociology and literary criticism.

At Verso I was both the production manager and an editor. I managed the production of forty books per year from manuscript to bound copy. In addition I copy-edited manuscripts and developed excellent working relationships with authors, in-house and freelance staff.

As one of Australia's leading publishers, Random House Australia has an impressive array of titles that span the mass market. I have edited and proofread books in the areas of literary non-fiction and children's publishing.

Reader’s Digest

Reader’s Digest is one of the world’s most pre-eminent publishers.

I edited popular fiction and non-fiction for the Select Editions and Encounters volumes. Each condensed book required me to work in Quark which included styling and working with images.

New Holland Publishers Australia

New Holland is a publisher of quality non-fiction. Its list encompasses biography, true crime, travel, sport, gardening and food.

Dorling Kindersley is an international publishing company specialising in the creation of high quality, illustrated information books.

I edited on-screen in Quark illustrated guidebooks ranging a variety of subjects, including health and lifestyle.

Hurst is a London-based scholarly publisher specialising in history, politics, sociology and religion. I have edited work with a focus on cultural studies.

The Ink Group

The Ink Group is an internationally recognised leader in the card, calendar and diary markets.

I project managed the fine art programme of calendars and diaries. This involved working on projects with galleries and museums such as the Tate, V&A Museum and the Smithsonian Institution. Copywriting was a major part of my role which included text for the company website, sales conference presentations and company catalogues.

Established in 1963, Doubleday is the largest book and music club in Australia. My role at Doubleday was to write for the company’s website and magazines on topics including fiction, music, lifestyle, MBS and science fiction.

Metia (formerly Write Image)

Metia is an international communications agency with its head office in London. The company provides a structured and programmatic approach to designing communications, marketing strategies and programmes for corporate clients. The industries Metia specifically targets include banking, finance and IT.

I edited and wrote copy for company brochures, websites, electronic newsletters, case studies and magazine articles.

Blueprint Multimedia

Blueprint Multimedia is the publisher of the Homebuyers and Renovators' Guide.

I was the editor of this flagship lifestyle publication. The Homebuyers and Renovators' Guide is a glossy consumer magazine that is distributed throughout Australia. I was responsible for commissioning content, writing feature articles, interviewing architects, editing and proofreading.

My thesis was on IVF and the perceived power relationships women had with the technology. The research entailed many in-depth interviews with subjects that were difficult to source.
